In Mauritius, you really can have it all. For example, enjoy:
- Swimming with dolphins in the wild. Mauritius doesn’t allow dolphins in captivity, so you can find an excursion that will allow you to experience these beautiful creatures in their own environment.
- Pack your walking boots and take a hike, explore natural infinity pools & hidden waterfalls, all whilst taking in the most breath-taking scenery.
- Hit the water sports, Kite Surfing, Parasailing, Wind Surfing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Diving or even an underwater sea-walk, discover the over and underwater playground of the Indian Ocean.

Mauritius is a tropical island meaning it is pretty warm all year round! Our UK Summer is winter in Mauritius, and therefore there cooler & drier season and UK Winter is Summer in Mauritius (warmer & wetter). I visited myself in June (technically low season) and the weather was beautiful mid/late 20s, we had a very small amount of rain most days but it was always short-lived.
November - April - Hot & Wet
This is the hot & rainy season, you will find high humidity therefore lush vegetation. January & February can be prone to rain (& cyclones), although you are also likely to get lots of hot & sunny weather as well. Temps are hottest from October through to December so this can be a great time to go if you like the heat!
May - October - Warm & dry
Temperatures average mid-20s with cooler temps at night. Still, a lovely temperature to swim & get out and explore. The UK Summer Holidays are a great time for families to go to Mauritius, the weather is far more bearable than many European destinations, and due to being "low" season there are some great deals to be had,
Peak tourist season is December to March, so if you want to avoid the crowds avoid this time.
As a Family Specialist Travel Agent, I have hand-picked some of the best family resorts in Mauritius, check them out below:
My recent Mauritius trip was a real eye-opener, it really made me realise how much this fun-packed island had to offer. It may be small, but don’t let that deceive you, there is so much to do here.
Yes of course you can just sit on one of the stunning beaches, but if you want to get out and be active, this is the place to go!
Why Mauritius is Great for an Active Holiday
- Water sports - Many of the resorts offer water sports included in the price, from Stand-up paddle boarding to kayaking or snorkelling, or even water skiing you can give it a go without breaking the bank!
- Go see the unbelievable wildlife, home to some AWESOME giant tortoises, or take a boat trip along the coast and see the crab-eating macaque monkey, these are just two of the diverse species of animal here
- Swim with Dolphins in the Wild – Mauritius is one of the few places you can swim with dolphins in the wild. Take a boat trip, find these beautiful creatures, and jump in!

- Zip Lining or Quad Biking – La Vallee des Couleurs offers you the opportunity to zip line along 1.6km above the stunning nature park, there are a series of shorter zip lines culminating in a beautiful line over a waterfall, or if you are feeling really adventurous you can add on the longest zipline at 1.5km!!
- Visit the capital – Port Louis, this gorgeous town offering a rich blend of historic & cultural attractions. Steeped in a rich colonial history you will also find a bustling central market and modern waterfront.
There are plenty of other activities, both land and sea-based, the above is just a small selection.
