What to Do for Families in Costa Rica
Watch Nesting Turtles at Tortuguero National Park
This vast area of flooded rainforest and marshy islands provides nesting and hatching grounds for endangered green, hawksbill, loggerhead, and leatherback turtles. Spend a few days exploring this sleepy water world with boat trips and canoe tours, and keep an eye on the canopy for sloths and monkeys!
Rafting in Arenal & Zip Lining
Arenal is Costa Rica’s adventure playground! The Balsa River takes you through moderate and moderately difficult rapids—perfect for young and first-time rafters, with just the right amount of froth and exhilaration. The zip line is suitable for children aged 8 and above, and after arriving by gondola, you can zig-zag back down the mountainside.
Wildlife Spotting – Jungle Trekking
Costa Rica is home to sloths, toucans, various species of monkeys, crocodiles, turtles, and so much more. There are plenty of tours and treks designed specifically for families of all ages.
We stayed in hotels and relaxed on beaches where sloths and monkeys were simply hanging in the trees above us. It’s truly magical.
