We visited Barbados (& Antigua) in October 2025, following our touring holiday to Costa Rica.
Barbados is obviously a fabulous destination in itself, but also a great add on to the adventure of Costa Rica.
We flew from San Jose (Via Miami), and it was the perfect antidote to the Costa Rica adventure and touring!
A 4-hour flight from Miami, or just under 9 hours from London, with a choice of airlines, it is a great year-round option.
Technically, the hurricane season; however, it is unusual for Barbados to be affected, but it is, of course, a risk.
We stayed in, and visited a few hotels, and below is my summary of them all, if you want to follow along on Youtube, check out my video below.
One of the friendliest countries I have ever visited, the people here are so lovely. Easy to get around, driving on the left, you can hire a car easily, or we jumped on and off the Reggae Reggae bus, which runs along the South & West coast, cheap and fun travel.
Weather & When to Travel
I am a big advocate for NOT booking your holiday based on the weather. Weather patterns are changing, and even in "low" season, in many countries, going in low season gives you much better prices, and usually just means more rain, but that rain is usually short, sharp and short-lived.
Barabdos is in the hurricane belt, but usually avoids, so is a relatively safe bet, even in hurricane season. We were there during Hurricane Melissa, which hit Jamaica hard. The weather for us was very hot & humid with occasional rain.
High season is December to April, which will see the lower humidity but higher prices. We have travelled to the Caribbean during January, May, October & November and have found very little difference in weather.
What to do
Lots of hotels offer non-motorised water sports, so you will find a host of activities within your hotel, many are also all-inclusive, with a good choice of dining. But it really is an island that needs exploring. Hire a car for a day or 2, or jump on one of hte buses, you won't regret it.
Oistins Market on a Friday night is fun, live music and entertainment and amazing food stalls, and the racehorse bathing on Pebbles beach is a real sight at sun rise.
Sea-based activities are fabulous, boat trips to see and swim with turtles, dolphin spotting with the added bonus of rum punch (a must in Barbados).
