Top Tips – Disney Holiday with Kids

A Walt Disney World trip can be magical, but it can also be full-on, hectic and a little daunting.

If you are choosing Disney World Florida the parks are numerous and vast, pre-planning can be a saviour!

Here are our top tips:

  • Plan Park AND Rest Days – At the moment, the measures put in place due to CV19 are still there, and all park days must be pre-booked, however, it is worthwhile doing a little research and deciding before you go what parks you want to do and when! The parks can be exhausting, so it is as important to plan a rest day as a park day! Don’t forget, if you have kids with you, they LOVE a pool day, so utilise the pool in your hotel/villa.
  • Work with jetlag – When you first arrive in Florida from the UK, the time difference means you are likely to be up very early on the first few days. So, use those days to get into the parks early. The parks open as early as 7.30am, so check out what parks are open early the days you arrive and utilise these.
  • Take water bottles/cooling towels – There are water fountains in the Disney parks, however, we found the water didn’t taste great. You can stock up on bottled water from a supermarket and take your own bottle. Don’t forget that almost everything in the Disney parks can be purchased cheaper at the supermarkets around. Nip out and grab a Target bargain, whether it be a water bottle, refillable cup, or cooling towel.
  • Cooling towels are lightweight towels that are designed to keep you cool, again can be bought beforehand to save some pennies.

  • Wear comfy shoes – And when I say comfy, I mean make sure they are comfy FOR YOU!! I learnt this the hard way. Everything I had read told me Sketchers Go Walk were the comfiest shoes ever, so I purchased a pair for our Disney Holiday! For me they were far from comfy, on day 2, with a bleeding blister on my foot, I went to Target and picked up a $7.99 pair of trusty flip-flops! Amazing! For me, flip flops are my comfiest, but you need to find what works for you, you will be walking miles!!
  • Lightening Lanes – You can purchase a Lightening Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass or both. Disney guests can purchase up to 7 days in advance
  • Rent a stroller – Obviously depending on the age of your kiddos, but even if your little one has outgrown a pushchair in the UK, don’t underestimate a day out at a Disney Park! If you don’t want to take your own pushchair, you can rent one from Disney from $13-15 per day (at the time of writing).
  • Break up your Day – There is so much to do at Disney, you don’t have to enter a park at 8am and stay till 10pm. Work out what times/days parades and fireworks are and plan your days accordingly. You may find you can have a lazy morning by the pool, then head to a park in the afternoon, catch a parade, stay for dinner and fireworks. Or alternatively, you might want to get in early, stay for lunch then head back to the pool for the afternoon!
